The “Hck Finn” Project

Challenge

To create a raft with given materials that will hold the most pennies.

Rules, Requirements, and Raft Information

• You will be given a piece of foil and four plastic straws to create your raft. No other materials may be used.

• You will be given two after class sessions or break sessions to complete your raft.

• If you damage any supplies and need more, points will be deducted from your final score.

• You will add pennies to the raft, until it begins to take on water. At that time no more pennies can be added.

Scoring

Scoring for this project is very simple. You will receive 1 point for each penny held up to that point. A bonus of 10 points will be added if your estimate of the number of pennies it would hold is within 10 pennies of the actual amount. The person with the highest score will be declared the winner. In the case of a tie, the person with the largest load will win.
